Tell Tom Gores to Stop Separating Our Families
Tom Gores makes a fortune off incarcerated people and their loved ones. He’s the billionaire owner of the Detroit Pistons and founder of Platinum Equity, which bought prison telecom giant Securus in 2017 for $1.6 billion.
Annually, Securus extracts a stunning $700 million from 1.2 million incarcerated people and their families by charging egregious rates for its communication services— up to $15 for a 15-minute phone call.
We’ve been working hard to challenge Gores, and in September, the Los Angeles Times published a scathing exposé in which he agreed to meet face to face with advocates and people directly impacted by his investments.
That’s where we need your help. We’ll be meeting with Gores in January and we want to tell him precisely what you want from Platinum Equity.
If you have experienced Securus’ extortionate cost of phone calls with your loved ones, please share your story with us via the form on this page, and we will personally bring it to Tom Gores. It doesn’t matter whether you were the one inside, or your loved one was. We want to hear from you.
